The Pardoners Tale

"The Pardoners Tale" has a very high level of irony in it. The author displays irony in a few different situations. One situation is when the three characters in the story decide that they want to kill death. Another is when they find an old man on the street and he says that he knows where to find death and points to a tree. The overall irony of the story is that death comes to those that seek it.
The three men that set out to find death have no clue what is in store for them. They begin their pursuit on death because one of their good friends had died. The men were in a drunken stupor and they set out to find vengeance. While looking for death, they find a pile of gold under a tree. That pile of gold turns that men into very selfish people. that all plot on how they are going to kill each other so that one could have all the money. In the end of their search for death, death finds all three of them.
While in search for death, the three men stumble upon an old man who points them in direction of the gold. The old man does not tell the men that it is gold, he refers to it as death. The old man knew how powerful greed is and the things that people would do for money. He knew that in the end the three men would find what they were looking for.
When you go out looking for death or vengeance always be aware of the consequences. When you look for death it is almost always found. Although it usually is not found in the way that one had expected. There is a saying that states "death comes to those who look for it." That statement played a huge part in this story. The men went looking for death and they all died in the end.
The irony in this story tells of the danger that comes to those looking for trouble. Keeping a cool head is important in life. When you let yourself look for danger you will always find it. The consequences that come with it can be very bad in they end.

  1. The Pardoners Tale seemed to be filled with irony. This shows and highlights the main and big points of irony. The men all went for something and end up finding it in a way they had not planed.
